It was a cold February 1st 2003 all over the T.V. that day was the very sad news that the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated over Texas. Laurel Clark from Racine WI was killed that day along with the other members of that flight. On that very same day at the time of the news breaking out our family was going to grow. I was being induced that am. It was our first baby and it was a boy. My doctor was Dr. Brockmann. One week prior my heart rate was high and so was my blood pressure so she & I picked Feb 1st at 8am to induce me. They started all my meds by 9am and the race was on. We were one of the last families to deliver at St. Luke's of Racine as it was closing and moving the following week.
By 10am I was having some pain and at noon she broke my water. We watched the space shuttle crash all day long due to the fact at that time they only had 4 channels and it was before I-phones and DVDs. At 1pm my pain was bad and I got an epidural...thank goodness for that. At 4:45 I was getting ready to push and at 5:01pm Mason Spencer was born!
He cried just twice. Mason weighed 6lbs 8.8oz. He was such a little baby. We fell in love with him as soon as we saw him. I loved that time in the hospital (with all 3 of my kids) I think cause it is a time where we spend most of the time focusing on our new delivery. It was a special time of us 3 to bond. We were released on Feb 3rd and we were so very excited to start our new life together. Mike was able to be home with us for 2wks. Mason was a terrific baby and a fun toddler. He loved learning new things and being silly. He loved to make us laugh.
Now 9yrs later and he is a sweet boy. Mason is thoughtful, sweet & caring. He doesn't like trouble & likes to play by the rules. Mason LOVES math and likes reading. He still loves to make us and others laugh. He enjoys playing baseball and might try football this year. Mason has always had an ear for music and plays drums well. He is a great big brother and a wonderful son. He continues to make us proud everyday. We still can't believe that 9yrs flew by but we love seeing him grow. Thank you Mason for being one of our greatest gifts ever! Happy birthday, Mason Spencer!
